The following activities have been accomplished since the last meeting in Maldon, UK.

Public Awareness

・Over 500 copies of the ISO TC 8 Newsletter Issue #2 have been distributed. Issue #3 will be available for distribution at our AG meeting in Galati, Romania.

・Members are encouraged to prepare articles promoting the work of ISO TC 8 for publication in national and international publications. In addition, members are requested to prepare articles for our next Newsletter. Subcommittee Chairman are specifically encouraged and invited to provide one or two paragraphs of their work for the next ISO TC 8 Newsletter. Deadline for submission of articles is 1999-09-01.

Recruitment of New Members

・Two individuals at IMO/DE 42 expressed an interest in participation in ISO as follows:

CAPT Jorge Eduardo De Carvalho Rocha, Counsellor for Maritime Affairs from Brazil(located at the Brazilian Embassy in London) and Dr. Ing. Dan Livneh Chief Naval Architect from the Ministry of Transport. Administration of Shipping and Port, Haifa, Israel.

Letters and information packets have been sent to these individuals inviting them to become members of ISO TC 8. Follow-on contact with these individuals will be made to encourage a positive response.

8 N 1000 Status Report - Resolution 167, 8 N 929

・In reviewing the Status Report, it was concluded that there was little value added in separating the standards development activities that were requested by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) from the standards development activities that support the work of IMO. What is more important is to identify the link between work items of mutual interest to ISO/TC 8 and IMO. As a result, it is concluded that the "R" designation should be deleted everywhere it appears in the first column of Annex A of the Status Report, as well as any reference to the "R" designation, see last sentence in paragraph 8, page 2 and last sentence in paragraph 1 of Annex A, page 35.

Fund Raising-Resolution 172, 8 N 929

・No work has been devoted to this topic to date and question if there is still a need to pursue funding sources, especially with Japan's recent acceptance as ISO/TC 8 Secretariat.
