6 The group considered that round robin test,I.e.,the tests conducted in plural laboratories using the same sample, for liquefaction potential test should be conducted for the evaluation of repeatability of the test. Japan and Poland will conduct the round robin test

 

Understanding of "Liquefaction phenomena of solid bulk cargoes"

7 The available knowledge of bulk cargo liquefaction phenomena and the factors which influence liquefaction phenomena were reviewed, briefly. It was also noted that there are various definitions of "liquefaction". Furthermore, it was reconfirmed that increase of pore pressure is the essential phenomenon of liquefaction.

 

Kinds of tests to be conducted

 

8 Canada was of the opinion that the results of the liquefaction potential test should be compared and validated by the load controlled cyclic triaxial strength test (ASTM designation D 5311 : Standard Test Method for Load Controlled Cyclic Triaxial Strength of Soil). Japan was of the opinion that it is possible to evaluate the liquefaction potential test based on the comparison of the results of the test and the transportable moisture limits determined by the methods described in Appendix D of the BC Code, basically. It was also noted that the members of the Correspondence Group are not ready to conduct the load controlled cyclic triaxial strength test. Japan also plans to measure permeability of materials as reference, reflecting the comment in DSC 3/1 l/5 by Canada.

 

Action requested of the Sub-Committee

9 The Sub-Committee is invited to take note of the progress of the work of Correspondence Group and invite the Committee to approve the continuation of the work in accordance with the terms of reference.
