渡辺玲子は、超絶的なテクニック、玲瓏で知的な音楽性、切れ味鋭い官能性とその広いレパートリーで、日本のみならず世界のヴァイオリン界をリードする逸材である。
東京生まれ。3歳よりヴァイオリンを始める。第50回日本音楽コンクールにおいて最年少(15歳)優勝。同時に第1回増沢賞(全部門を合わせて最も優れた者に与えられる賞)を受賞。その後、「若い芽のコンサート」でNHK交響楽団と共演して衝撃的デビューを飾った。
1985年からは、ニューヨークのジュリアード音楽院に全額奨学生として留学し、ヴァイオリンをJ・フックスに師事、室内楽も学んだ。1992年同音楽院大学院を修了。1984年ブイオッティ、1986年パガニー二両国際コンクールで最高位を受賞。その後、ニューヨークを本拠地として世界各地でオーケストラとの共演、リサイタル、音楽祭への参加と国際舞台での活躍がめざましい。これまでに国内外の主要オーケストラ・指揮者と次々に共演、いずれも高い評価を得ている。
近年は、ドレスデンにおいてシノーポリ指揮ドレスデン・シュターツ・カペレと共演したベルクのヴァイオリン協奏曲は演奏会と同時にテルデック・レーベルによってCD録音も行われ、渡辺玲子のデピューCDとして1997年奉にリリースされた。1998年4月には、2枚目のCD「My Favorite」も同じくテルデックよりリリースされ、大好評を得ている。
Reiko Watanabe (Violinist)
Reiko Watanabe, widely praised for her brilliant technique and expressive playing, was, at age fifteen, the youngest grand-prize winner in the history of All-Japan Music Competition. Since then, she has gone on to capture the top honors at several other prestigious international competitions, including the G. B. Viotti in 1984, Paganini in 1986, and Josef Gingold competitions, resulting in engagements throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.
With a full scholarship, Reiko Watanabe entered The Juilliard School in 1985 where she studied under Joseph Fuchs and graduated with master's degree in 1992. Residing in New York, her performance career has taken her all over the world with renowned orchestras and conductors.
In 1997, her debut CD was released from Teldec label on live performance of the Berg Violin Concerto with the Staatskapelle Dresden with Giuseppe Sinopoli. Teldec released her next recording "My Favorite", a collection of solo works, in April 1998.
