アントニオ・ストラデイヴァリが1709年に製作したヴァイオリンで、1996年5月に購入いたしました。この楽器は、海軍士官ヤング中佐家に約150年間大切に保管・所有された後、当財団の前の所有者エングルマン博士(米国在住)の手に渡りました。1915年のフイリップ・ヒル氏書簡によると、〈この楽器はストラディヴァリの作品の中でも最高級に属するもので、その音色も群を抜いている。〉音色と共に、楽器の保存状態も稀なほど最良です。前の所有者の名前から「エングルマン」と呼ばれています。
Stradivarius 1709 Violin "Engleman"
This violin was made by Antonio Stradivari in 1709. This instrument is in an exceptionally pure state of preservation. Its superior condition is due to having been in one family's ownership for a long time. The heirs of Commander Young, a naval officer, owned this violin for almost one hundred and fifty years. "...it deserves to be placed amongst the foremost instruments of the maker. Its tonal qualities are of the finest." (taken from a letter by Mr. Phillips Hill of London in 1915). NMF purchased it from Mr. Engleman, from whom this instrument takes the name, in May 1996.
