The first Sulzer 11RTA96C engine, the world's most powerful diesel engine ever built, was successfully completed on May 28, 1997 at Diesel United Ltd., Aioi, Japan, under license by WARTSILA NSD Switzerland Ltd. Finally two engines of the same design were delivered and loaded onboard 5,750-TEU container vessels for NYK Line. In addition, 12RTA96C engine was developed to obtain the maximum rating of engine output and speed. The first unit of this new engine was delivered and loaded onboard 6,690-TEU container vessel for P&O Nedlloyd in March 1998 and three more engines of the same design were delivered to her three sister vessels.
