The work-vessel, developed by The Technological Research Association of Mega-Float, Japan is for jointing the demonstration float units of the Mega-Float Project with a higher efficiency and higher accuracy.
In the Vessel we can easily carry out welding, non-destructive testing, painting, etc. of underwater part (bottom structure) in the atmospheric condition.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. has designed and constructed the vessel and applied it to the jointing of the float units (for about 100 m length).
After the bottom plates of two float units are welded from inside of the float, the vessel is to be operated in the following procedure:
1. Setting the vessel on guide rails at the float bottom.
2. Moving and setting the vessel at designed position on the float bottom.
3. Sealing and clamping.
4. Pumping sea water from the workroom of the vessel.
5. Jointing work (welding, NDT, painting, etc.). Workmen, equipment, air, electric and other materials are carried through access trunks of the float.
6. Moving and setting at next jointing position
7. Repeating (1-6)
