TARONGA 2,833-TEU Ro/Ro Vessel
The world's largest class Ro/Ro vessel TARONGA was built at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and delivered to KS Benargus AS & Co. (Wilhelmsen Lines AS) on December 16, 1996.
The vessel is engaged in the worldwide service, especially on trans-atlantic and trans-pacific routes.
The vessel can carry 2,833 TEU containers in maximum and other various cargoes such as cars, all types of working vehicles, cruisers, yachts, diesel engines, trains, helicopters, building materials, etc.
Features
1. The vessel has seven cargo decks. Deck 1 to Deck 4, located in the main hull, are used for carrying containers and general cargo.
2. Weather deck, Deck 5 is designed to load maximum 5-tiers of containers.
3. Decks 6 and 7 are dedicated car decks.
4. In cargo part, double bottom and double hull construction is applied, insides of which are used for water ballast tanks, etc.
5. Stern ramp is provided at the aft end corner of Deck 4 with a top hinged watertight door.
6. Fixed type hold rampways, wide enough to take on roll trailers, are provided with ramp covers for Deck 1 to Deck 5. Movable ramps are arranged between Deck 5A - Deck 5B and Deck 5B - Deck 6, and a watertight foldable ramp is arranged at lower end of fixed ramp between Deck 4 - Deck 5A.
7. Deck 5B is a hoistable car deck which is all driven by hydraulic jigger cylinders.
