CHUANHE 5,250-TEU Container Ship
A post-Panamax container ship of 5,250-TEU capacity, one of the world's largest class, CHUANHE, for COSCO International Trading Company was delivered at Sakaide Yard of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. in November 1997. The ship is the last of six sister ships.
Features
1. The ship is furnished with 7 container holds; 6 forward and 1 aft of the engine room.
2. Containers can be stowed in 9 tiers and 14 rows in the holds and in 5 tiers and 16 rows on the hatch covers in the midship area. The ship is designed taking into account loading of heavier containers (14t/TEU x about 4,330 TEUs) by fully utilizing her wider hull and supreme stability performance. Lashing bridges are fitted to secure 5 tiers of containers to be loaded on the hatch covers.
3. The hull form was newly developed in order to minimize the wave making resistance at the fore and aft part while maintaining stability. The Kawasaki-MAN B&W 10L90MC engine (58,600 PS x 82 rpm) and a large diameter and low revolution propeller (9.2m dia. x 82 rpm) have been adopted to maximize the propulsive performance. As a result, the ship has achieved a great reduction in horsepower and fuel consumption for this class of ships.
4. The ship provides good comfort for the crew characterized with reduced vibration and noise levels by the adoption of the Kawasaki Damp Tank and the optimized (uneven) firing orders of the main engine, despite the large main engine.
5. With ultra-automated/ultra-labor saving equipment such as an integrated bridge system intended for one-man operation and touch-panel type remote start/stop of auxiliaries in the machinery room, the ship can be operated by a crew of 25.
