P&O NEDLLOYD SOUTHAMPTON 6,690 TEU Container Ship

P&O NEDLLOYD SOUTHAMPTON, post Panamax size container ship, is the first of four vessels built at IHI Kure Shipyard order for which was placed with IHI in 1996 originally by P&O Containers Limited (U.K.), which later merged with Nedlloyd Lines B.V. (Netherland) and became P&O Nedlloyd Container Limited. The concepts incorporated in the design and construction of these vessels were the outcome of joint study by the owner and the shipyard toward new generation container ships. Continuous growth of marine transportation has pushed up the container fleet capacity and individual ship size, and this series of vessels help maintain the leading position. With 42.8m beam, she can load containers, 15-row abreast and 9-tier high in the cargo holds, 17-row abreast and 6-tire high on deck, totaling 6,690-TEUs.
