NYK CASTOR 6,148-TEU Over Panamax Container Ship
The NYK CASTOR for Vesta Co., Ltd., one of the three new container ships of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line), was completed on January 30, 1998 at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.
The NYK CASTOR is of an Over Panamax type and the breadth exceeds the restriction for passing the Panama Canal. The maximum number of loadable containers is 6,148 TEUs, including 6th tier of containers on-deck which is realized by lashing bridge system and large GM.
Each hold was designed for carriage of dangerous goods in accordance with SOLAS requirements. 500 sets of 440V receptacles for reefer containers have been provided on lashing bridges or in holds. The bow thrusters have been provided for effective maneuverability in ports.
