TOP SUGAR 30,000-dwt Double-Hull Handy Log/Bulk Carrier

The TOP SUGAR is the 1st vessel in a series of 30,000-dwt type double-hull log/bulk carriers built by Oshima Ship-building Co., Ltd. She was delivered in July 1998 to Top Sugar Maritime Inc.

Double-hull construction makes hull construction stiffened and countermeasures are taken in advance on hull construction for safety IACS BC unified rule. Double-side construction makes maintenance and inspection of side structure easy and allows free accessibility to double-bottom ballast tanks at loading condition. In addition, the double-hull construction makes possible easy cargo handling and easy hold cleaning.

The design allows a variety of cargoes to be handled, including coal, grain, ore, cement, packaged lumber, hot coils and logs.

This vessel has a large deadweight of 29,952 MT, cargo volume of 39,152m3 and log loading capacity of 55,471m3 (5,441,500 SCR) among such handy size bulk carriers.

By effective arrangement and structure, this vessel has long hold clearance of about 27m in length for Nos. 2-5 cargo holds and wide and long hatch openings (17.6m beam x 18.6m length for Nos. 2-5 cargo hatches). For high efficiency in cargo loading and unloading, 4 sets of 30 MT x 19 m/min x 24m radius deck cranes are provided.

The TOP SUGAR has a bulbous bow, stern bulb, semiskewed propeller to improve propulsion efficiency and reduce hull vibrations. And also, the Kawasaki-MAN B&W 6S46MC-C main engine offers superior reliability and fuel oil consumption as well as easy operation and maintenance.
