WESTERN OLIVIN 46,000-dwt Multipurpose Semi-Open Bulk Carrier
The 46,000-dwt WESTERN OLIVIN is the 2nd vessel in a series of multipurpose semi-open bulk carrier built by Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. She was delivered in August 1998 to Hercules Ocean Co.
The special feature of the vessels is their open hatch type box-shaped holds. The hold is square for easy handling of unit cargoes such as packaged lumber and container, etc.
The design allows a variety of cargoes to be handled, such as packaged lumber, logs, containers, grain, ore, cement, coal and hot coils.
The vessel has a large deadweight tonnage of 46,223 MT, cargo volume of 56,703m3 , log loading capacity of 65,800m3 and container loading capacity of 588 TEUs among such handy-max size bulk carriers.
By effective arrangement and structure, this vessel has long hold clearance of 29.16m in length and wide and long hatch opening (20.25m length x 25.40m breadth) to correspond to the above mentioned several kinds of cargoes.
For high efficiency in cargo loading and unloading, 4 sets of 30MT x 19m/min. x 26m radius deck crane are provided.
The WESTERN OLIVIN has a bulbous bow, stern bulb, highly skewed propeller to improve propulsion efficiency and reduce hull vibrations.
And also the Kawasaki-Man B&W 6S50MC-C main engine offers superior reliability and fuel oil consumption, in addition to easy operation and maintenance.
The series has demonstrated excellent performance in seaworthiness, fuel economy and high cargo handling efficiency.
