OLYMPIC SPIRIT II Double-Hull Aframax Tanker

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. delivered the double-hull Aframax tanker OLYMPIC SPIRIT II to Simbel Maritime Corporation, an Onassis Group company, in July 1997.

The new tanker's sister vessel, OLYMPIC SERENITY, which was also built by Sumitomo for the Onassis Group, was the first double-hull tanker in the world built after the United State Oil Pollution Act 1990 went into effect.

These double-hull Aframax tankers were developed by Sumitomo to serve as its standard from the middle of 1989. They are designed to minimize the danger of oil spills in the event of heavy grounding or collision. This was done to meet increasingly strict worldwide requirements for double-hull construction of oil carriers. Most of Sumitomo's advanced standard Aframax double-hull tankers are chartered by major oil companies under long-term agreements. These companies have expressed great satisfaction with the tankers.

Sumitomo uses advanced structural analysis to achieve the highest degree of structures of these vessels.

The OLYMPIC SPIRIT II was designed and constructed with full consideration given to achieving ease of maintenance and inspection of double-hull spaces.
