The double-hull VLCC OSPREY was built at Yokosuka Shipyard of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. and delivered to SAMCO, a joint venture company owned by Mobil Shipping and Transportation Company and Saudi Maritime Holding Company in January 1999.
The vessel meets the latest requirements for double-hull tankers, new MARPOL regulations adopted at IMO MEPC 32, and the United States OPA 90 concerning tank arrangement, double-hull dimensions, and vessel stability.
The hull structure meets ABS Safe-Hull requirements as well as ABS DLA (Dynamic Load Approach) to achieve the highest degree of structural reliability.
