RAINBOW 2 Hydrofoil Super-Shuttle
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) delivered the second Super-Shuttle 400, the RAINBOW 2, built at its Shimonoseki Shipyard, to her owner, Oki Shinko Co., Ltd., in June 1998. She is now in regular service on the same route as the RAINBOW between Oki-island and Honshu island.
Mitsubishi Super-Shuttle 400 is a hydrofoil catamaran, equipped with two same-size fully submerged hydrofoils at fore and aft in tandem configuration. She is propelled by two water jet propulsors powered by four high-speed diesel engines, two engines for each water jet. Auto-Pilot on Foil (APF) system to obtain her stability in the foilborne condition has been improved and provides more comfort riding at high speed.
