Shore-Vessel Communication System
JRCS Corporation has achieved its 50th anniversary as a total systems designer for marine electronics. Committed to the advancement of systems for futuristic ship management, JRCS has recently developed a system which enables engine data on board to be kept track of and diagnosed by experts on shore. This is known as a shore-vessel communication system.
Collection of engine data on board is accomplished by a state-of-the-art alarm monitoring and control system SMS-22/SMS-32. Communication takes place via INMARSAT B, and the on-shore staff can either (1) receive data regularly from the ship once a day (fixed time data collection) or (2) actively retrieve data at any desired time (real time data collection).
(1) Fixed time data collection
Engine data collected on board at a fixed time is automatically transmitted to the shore station at night when a discount line charge is available. On shore, the data is received either by an in-house mail server or via a provider, and can be displayed and analyzed as desired on each terminal computer in the office.
(2) Real time data collection
The current data on the subject ship can be retrieved by the on-shore staff whenever required. This real time data collection has two versions, the one-time data mode, in which data is received only once, and the continual refresh mode, in which data variations are kept track of, either can be selected as fits the particular need. As this enables the data to be displayed on each terminal in the office in the same way as on board, the data can be analyzed by professional expertise.
Transmission to the shore station can cover not only measured data but also, for Instance, photographic data on any damaged part, contributing to even easier diagnosis by the expert team on shore.
Furthermore, if a LAN system is built up on board (Ethernet), various data on board other than engine data can also be transmitted.
