AVP-8110 Torsional Vibration Processor
Akasaka Diesels Limited has developed the AVP 8110 torsional vibration processor, an optical sensor-based non-contact precision torsional vibration processor, now being effectively used for measuring torsional vibration of marine propulsion shafting systems.
Compact and light for easy portability, this new type of torsional vibration processor was developed to permit ready measurement even by non-experts and to allow on-site analysis of data on a real-time basis as data is received.
Whereas Geiger's torsiograph or FM telemeter-based strain gauges are the most commonly used devices for measuring torsional vibration of marine propulsion shafting systems, both of these instruments require specialized knowledge and complex work for the analysis of measurements. Geiger's torsiograph entails complex analysis, and their analytical accuracy heavily relies on the analyzer's skills. Measurement with a strain gauge takes many man-hours to set up the gauge and, moreover, to conduct on-site analyses real-time a great deal of preparatory work is required, including the installation of a general-purpose FFT analyzer.
The AVP 8110 torsional vibration processor, which uses an optical sensor, can measure torsional vibration without being in contact with the object of measurement. In place of an optical sensor, a rotary encoder or an electromagnetic pickup can also be used to accept signals, resulting in greater freedom of sensing for some objects and substantial simplification of the measurement procedure. Measured data are automatically analyzed on a real-time basis, so that no expert knowledge is needed and the man-hours required for measurement and analysis can be significantly saved.
The torsional vibration processor consists of an arithmetic processor for sensed data and a frequency analyzing unit. The latter, using a built-in FFT analyzer, can also be utilized for analysis of vibration and sound in general. A portable instrument, the AVP is compact enough to be contained in an attache case (410 mm wide x 320 mm long x 170 mm thick) and it weighs only about 10 Kg.
