As a result, we found that about 20 percent of the total problems were attributed to the ship's design matter, about 30 percent were caused by the shipyard's workmanship and the remaining 50 percent were problems caused by the equipment itself, supplied by the sub-contractor.

The following considerable process is usually followed from start to finish in shipbuilding by the marine equipment manufacturer and the shipyard.

・ Feasibility study/Pre design-Inquiry-Order Design-

・ Manufacturing/Shop test-Supply/Fitting-Adjustment/onboard test-Delivery

To build one new ship, the relationship between the marine equipment manufacturer and the shipyard lasts only between one to three years.

b. Relationship between Marine Equipment Manufacturer and Shipowner

The following considerable process is usually followed from start to finish in shipbuilding by the marine equipment manufacturer and the shipowner.

・ Selection of manufacturer & type-Approval of drawings-Shop test-

・ Onboard test-Ship's delivery-Maintenance & Repair
