SUMMARY

Executive summary: This paper proposes a small change to the radio frequency for making reports to Dover Coastguard.
Action to be taken: Paragraph 6
Related documents: NAV 44/14 (section 3) and annex 10.

Introduction

1    Section 3 and annex 10 of NAV 44/14 includes the details of a proposed mandatory ship-reporting system for the busy Dover Strait/Pas de Calais, which the Committee is invited to adopt.

2    After further teehnical consideration, the United Kingdom propose that the ship reporting radio frequency for DOVER COASTGUARD should be VHF Channel 11, rather than Channel 69.

Details

3    The second sub-paragraph of paragraph 5 of annex 10 of the mandatory ship-reporting system should be amended to read:

The ship reports can be made by voice on VHF radio using Ch 13 (GRIS NEZ TRAFFIC) or Ch 11 (DOVER COASTGUARD).

The sentence beginning "Another frequency may... " can be deleted.

4    In paragraph 7.4 of annex 10 amend the channel details as follows:

- Ch 11 (port operations and CNIS) - continuously monitored;

- Ch 69 (inter-ship, port operations and CNIS).

5    The first sub-paragraph of paragraph 3 of the SUMMARY annex should be amended to read:

By voice on VHF radio using Ch 13 (GRIS NEZ TRAFFIC) or Ch 11 (DOVER COASTGUARD).

6    The Committee is invited to note these small changes when considering adoption of the mandatory ship-reporting system for the Dover Strait/Pas de Calais.
