GUIDE TO "COULD YOU BE TRAPPED BY CORRUPTION ?"

This questionnaire aims to identify character traits of the type of person most likely to fall into the trap of corruption. The more yes answer you give, the more likely you are to fall into this trap.

1 A warm-hearted individual often hesitates to refuse when another person requests a favor. No matter how difficult it might be, this person will usually do their utmost to fulfill this. One of the main duties of public officials is to review and handle requests such as these, and likewise they are expected to make an earnest attempt to fulfill these. At the same time, however, if a request cannot possibly be met, it is their duty to explain the exact reason why.

2 People often only approach you when they require a particular favor. The reason that they approach you, is that they believe you are the person best qualified to handle this request. You, on the other hand, might be only too glad to fulfill this favor, as it will in some way prove that you are more capable than others.

3 Contractors often approach a hard-working staff like yourself when they require a particular favor. Perhaps they expect that you are more capable of handing something this difficult than others in the office. Without any sense of guilt, you might be persuaded that you deserve the extra benefits supplied by the contractor, since you work much harder than others.

4 It is natural that you desire to enjoy your private life. If your expectations are far too high, however, you are in danger of being drawn to the extra benefits supplied by contractors, as a means of enriching your personal life.

5 A sincere individual will often make a great effort to return a favor when requested. It is essential, however, to separate public duty from personal obligation.

6 Corruption culminating in a criminal offense often starts with a small favor such as being treated to lunch. As these minor incidents pile up, ethics diminish, and in an extreme case, this might even lead to bribery.

7 A contractor may approach you requesting a favor over procedures and not the results themselves. You might believe that the procedures are trivial and do not in any way affect the final results. Without any sense of guilt, there is a danger of building up a series of irregular procedures such as these, and this in itself might lead to serious corruption.
