Organization and history of the Ministry of Home Affairs
The Ministry of Interior Affairs, established in 1873, was dismantled in 1947, after which several organizations were independently in charge of local administration and finance, which had been under the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
As can be seen in the reports submitted by the Local Government System Research Council in 1953 and 1955 and in the report submitted by the Administrative Council in 1959, the role of local administration in national policy had rapidly grown, and people realized keenly the need for a ministry responsible for local administration; and the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Fire and Disaster Management Agency as an extra ministerial department, was established in 1960.
