With regard to Korea, for example, one of the Korean project members stated, "It is through the Freedom of Navigation Project that I came to realize that talks on maritime cooperation between Japan and Korea provide a good starting point for Japan-Korea cooperation. This project has played the role of base point that links Japanese and Korean intellectuals to one another, facilitating our exchange of opinions and opening a new era of Japan-Korea cooperative relations."
Similar statements have been expressed by other members and organizations. Furthermore, this project is beginning to forge new relations between Japan and other Asia-Pacific nations, including Australia, Thai and Malaysia.
