About the "Freedom of Navigation" Project
This project was inaugurated in April 1997, and made possible by a geneous grant from the Nippon Foundation. The Chairperson has been Sumihiko Kawamura, Rear Admiral (Ret). More than 30 experts, journalists and others have participated in the project. Its second year commenced in April 1998.
The Policy Study Group, a not-for-profit and private independent organization, is the recipient of the grant. This project has been conducted under the auspices of PSG,in collaboration with the Okazaki Institute (http://www.glocomnet.or.jp/okazaki-inst/okazaki-jap.html) which is another private independent organization.
