4 GUIDELINES FOR THE ON-BOARD USE AND APPLICATIONS OF COMPUTERS
The Working Group studied the document NAV 44/13 which had been forwarded from the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Equipment. The Working Group considered the proposed guidelines to be useful but noted that in the case of navigation and communication equipment the Organization had adopted many Performance Standards which contain specific requirements. The Working Group therefore expanded the text to add a reference to Performance Standards noting that these take precedence over Guidelines. With this change the Working Group prepared the text, given in annex 5, as a MSC Circular on Guidelines for the on-board use and applications of computers, as requested, for submission to the Committee for approval.
