INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION
TECHNICAL COMMITTEE NO. 18 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS OF SHIPS AND OF MOBILE AND FIXED OFFSHORE UNITS
Meeting of IEC/TC 18, 14th to 16th October 1998 in Houston.
First meeting day, 14th October - Daily Report
1. Opening of the meeting
Mr. Rocco Lofaro on behalf of the US National Committee welcomed TC 18 to Houston.
Address by the Chairman
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Houston, welcome to the 62nd General Meeting of the IEC and finally welcome to the 30th Plenary meeting of TC 18. Thank you all for your attendance and for the preparation in the Working Groups that have met during the latter part of last week and earlier this week.
On this occasion I welcome in particular the new observer to TC 18 from IACS, Mr.Alexander Musteykis.
I would firstly like to request the US delegation to take our thanks back to their National Committee for the invitation to meet here in Houston during the IEC General Meeting this week.
I believe that the meeting venue we find ourselves in is execellent and, personally, beyond my expectations. The Organization is different to anything we have ever experienced before, due mainly to the extensive use of computer facilities, but of course what would one expect in the USA and Texas.
As you will all be aware this will be the last TC 18 meeting that I will preside over. You will also be aware that Mr.Giovanni Rebaudengo was appointed Chairman of TC 18 on the 1st August this year. However, it was agreed that I would Chair this meeting for several reasons which I will not bore you with.
When I opened my first TC 18 meeting in 1991 I asked for your patience, assistance and support, as I was new to the game. I now have a little experience, however, I do not find the job any easier than then and would again ask for your support and patience.
