Note: "Other approved means" may include a disconnector, switch-disconnector or similar means by which the bus-bars can be readily split.
Proposed Action
Amend IEC 92-201 as follows:
Add 6.2.2.1
"6.2.2.1 Where the main source of electrical power is necessary for propulsion and steering and to ensure safety of the ship, the systems shall be so arranged that the electrical supply to equipment necessary for propulsion and steering and to ensure safety of the ship, will be maintained or automatically restored after loss of any one of the generators in service. Power for propulsion and steering and to ensure safety of the ship, shall be restored within 45. seconds after loss of power, or such longer time as may be agreed by the appropriate Authority. This may be achieved by one or both of the following measures:
a) Provision of protection, including automatic disconnection of sufficient non-essential equipment, to ensure that any other sets which were in operation at the time of failure continue to operate safely.
b) Automatic starting and connection of one or more standby generators."
Add 6.2.4.1
"6.2.4.1 Load shedding or other equivalent arrangements shall be provided to protect the generators required by the appropriate authority against sustained overload."
Add 6.2.6
"6.2.6 where the main source of electrical power is necessary for propulsion of the ship, the main busbar shall be subdivided into at least two parts which shall normally be connected by circuit breaker or other approved means; so far as is practicable, the connection of generating sets and other duplicated equipment shall be equally divided between the parts.
Note: Other approved means may include a disconnector, switch-clisconnector or similar means by which the bus-bars can be readily split.
