RECRUITMENT AND PUBLICITY
We have very active European, Asian and United States participation. A major undertaking will be to further expand our active member country participation to the developing countries, other regional bodies such as COPANT and PASC (AppendicesII andIII) and others. Not only are we committed to increasing our active membership, but also we will strive to ensure that the breadth of our membership amply represents all facets of the maritime industry - builder, operator, owner, supplier, designer, government, or other users.
Publicity to increase visibility of the TC8 activities will be coordinated through a Publicity/Public Relations Chairman and Ad-Hoc group appointed by the Chairman, ISO/TC8. Efforts will be focused toward increased advertisement of TC8 activities (i.e., subcommittee meetings, individual committee meetings, and major accomplishments). This shall be accomplished through use of the various marine industry publications and any other forms of advertisement that might more effectively notify the marine industry of ISO Committee TC8 efforts.
Numerous articles have been published in the ISO Bulletin and will continue. An article was included in the BIMCO 1998 review. An ISO/TC8 Newsletter has been created. It is expected to produce the newsletter twice yearly. An ISO/TC8 brochure has been prepared and widely distributed. It will be reviewed periodically for currency and used as a principal advertising tool for ISO/TC8. Speeches and presentations will be made by the Chairman, members of the Advisory Group, and Subcommittee Chairs at various international conferences, symposia and other meetings to increase awareness of ISO/TC8 and its activities.
A compendium of ISO standards for ships and marine technology has been published and will be updated biennially. It serves as a ready reference document containing abstracts of ISO standards, relating to the marine industry regardless of the ISO TC of origin.
All newsletters, brochure, speeches and other publicity material as well as the ISO/TC8 work programme will be available on the internet.
Special publications may be prepared to train members of TC8, gain publicity to attract new active participants, or to aid the standards development process. Workshops and seminars may be used to provide increased knowledge in one or more technical areas. Seminars have been presented to industry/government bodies in the host country coincident with Committee meetings. Consideration of an awards program is under review by an Ad-Hoc group established by the Chairman.
