B. IAPH is an organization of worlds ports directors, commissioners and other port and harbour managers. The IAPH is concerned with such items as ship/shore safety, vessel trafficking, air pollution from ships, ship's ballast water management and other marine safety and environmental protection matters which have potential port and harbour impacts. IAPH maintains its principal interface with IMO through its joint IAPH/IMO Ship/Port Interface Group.

C. IMO was established by convention in March 1948. It was created to develop a range of international treaties, codes and requirements for the shipping industry. It is comprised of 155 member nations and focuses on safety-at-sea and marine environmental protection. IMO is best known for its two major international conventions - SOLAS and MARPOL. It has shown itself to be an effective regulatory body and has developed mechanisms for meeting emergencies effectively and swiftly. IMO has done a great deal to improve the safety of international shipping and to reduce pollution from ships.

IMO liaison is substantial because IMO represents a significant segment of our market in addition to routine liaison. ISO/TC8 maintains the liaison with IMO/MSC (Maritime Safety Committee) and IMO/MEPC (Marine Environment Protection Committee) at the Chairman level. For the Committee, ISO/TCS/SC1 maintains liaison with IMO/FP (Fire Protection); ISO/TC8/SC3 maintains liaison with IMO/DE (Design & Equipment); and ISO/TC8/SC6 maintains liaison with IMO/NAV (Navigation). We remain flexible regarding participation in other IMO subcommittees should the need and desire arise.

D. IEC is a key worldwide organization, similar to ISO, with jurisdiction over international standards development for electrical, electronic, and telecommunication systems and equipment. IEC technical committee on electrical installations of ships and of mobile and fixed offshore units (IEC/TC18) is the principal marine standards technical committee.
