9.1 ISO/CD 11606 Marine electromagnetic compasses [06.11]
The draft performance standard for electromagnetic compasses, which was considered at the last (43rd) IMO/NAV session, was discussed at the later (69th) IMO/MSC session. With regard to this draft performance standard, CIRM (International Radiomaritime Committee) submitted to the MSC a proposal paper which states that there are no provisions requiring electromagnetic compasses to transmit an output signal of the true bearing of a heading. After the deliberation at the MSC session, the draft performance standard was referred back to the NAV to be discussed at its 45th IMO/NAV session, which was held in July this year.
The 45th NAV session concluded that "electromagnetic compasses" should be changed to "TMHD" (Marine Transmitting Magnetic Heading Device). (For further details, see the NAV attendance report of Prof. Iijima (SC 6 chairman).)
Accordingly, the SC 6 secretariat is now amending ISO/CD 11606 in such a way that it becomes an ISO standard, with the contents of TMHD included.
9.2 ISO/WD 16327 Performance requirements for night vision equipment for HSC [06.19]
At the 45th IMO/NAV session, IMO's Performance requirements for night vision equipment for HSC were discussed, but the draft performance standard was not finalized. Therefore, it was agreed to continue to discuss the draft performance standard at the next IMO/NAV session (to be held in 1999-09). (For further details, see Prof. Iijima's NAV attendance report.)
