Marque's de Samaranch
On behalf of the Olympic Movement, I am pleased to convey my greetings to the people of Japan, the organizers and the participants in the Sixth Sumo World Championship, taking place in Tokyo.
A country with a great wealth and diversity of traditions, Japan, which will soon be hosting the XVIII Olympic Winter Games in Nagano in 1998, is highly successful in promoting its traditional national sports. By hosting this Sumo Championship, it provides an opportunity for the rest of the world to experience one of the great cultural and sporting traditions of its country's heritage.
On the occasion of this international, and as we look forward to the Olympic cultural programme in Nagano, which will include Sumo wrestling, I wish you all every success.
