Kawasaki Advanced CIM System
1. Introduction
Kawasaki Heavy Industires, Ltd. (KHI) developed Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system by composing of TRIBON System (3-Dimensional CAD/CAM System specialized for shipbuilding) and self-developed software and information systems.
TRIBON is 3-D product model and information system developed by Kockums Computer Systems in Sweden, which has a common data storage for hull and outfitting system.
KHI constructed CIM system by integrating TRIBON system and self-developed systems such as CAE system, CAM/FA/Robot system, production planning management system and material procurement system.
This system was applied overall to 5,250TEU container carrier in 1996.
2. Architecture of KHI CIM System
Architecture of KHI System is shown in Figure 1.
In order to construct KHI CIM system, it is essential to integrate 3-D product model database system which must be common database opened to other systems.
KHI selected TRIBON system as tool for 3-D product modeling and product information manager.
TRIBON system consists of a number of systems such as hull, pipe, cable, structure, accommodation and work preparation.
