DU-SULZER 6RTA48T, Compact Engine with Super Long Stroke
The first production RTA48T engine with 6 cylinders was completed at Diesel United Ltd. (DU) in September 1996. The newly developed RTA48T type engine was designed for the propulsion of bulk carriers and tankers in the range of 20,000 to 70,000-dwt with the following features;
・ Ideal matches of power and speed
・ More economy in operation
・ High reliability and durability
・ Compact dimension for short engine room
・ Well adapted to installation on board
・ Simplicity in operation and maintenance
The particulars of the engine is below-listed.
The engine was tested for more than 2 months on a test bench for settings and confirmations including thermal-dynamic and fuel injection optimization and stress and strain measurements. It was also verified that this type engine would be meeting to planned IMO limits for NOx exhaust emissions without any additional equipment. The NOx levels are reduced simply by the engine tuning. This is facilitated by the electronic VIT (variable injection timing) system, which is now standard on RTA series engines.
The engine will be delivered to Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Tokyo shipyard and installed on the 42,000-dwt bulk carrier, built for one Japanese ships owner. The model, RTA48T type engine has been highly successful in the market. And some 32 units of the type have already been ordered with Diesel United.
DU has been continuing to develope and supply various type and size engines, having higher performance and reliability and meeting to needs in the world. And two model engines, RTA58T and RTA96 C will be started on the test benches in begining of 1997.
