WAKASHIO MARU, an Ocean/Weather Observation and Training Ship
The training ship WAKASHIO MARU was built at the Miho Shipyard Co., Ltd. and delivered to the Ministry of Education, Japan.
The WAKASHIO MARU is a modern training ship as well as ocean/ weather observation research vessel. This ship is designed and equipped to conduct both training the cadets to master the latest ship operation technology and the research on the ocean/weather observation. She is powered by one 1,300PS diesel engine connected to four-braded controllable pitch propeller.
Principal features of this ship are: to design the ship having complete 2nd deck and this increase the freeboard height and safety of the ship; to make the navigation life comfortable (reduce the noise and vibration and supply the natural lighting), all accommdation houses are located above the upper deck ; to make engine room space larger for the easy maintenance and better educational circumstance of machineries.
Major facilities, needed for both training & research activities are: for handling the ship, Joystick controller connected with C.P. propeller, Schilling rudder, Bow and Stern thruster; for navgation aids, ECDIS ; for comfortable sea life, Anti-rolling tank; for well effects on circumstances, De NOx system, Exhaust gas analyzer and Oil concentration analyzer; for research on ship motion, Differential GPS, Inertial sensing system, Sea observation system and Low speed route tracking system; for processing valuable data, Data processing system ; for oceanographic observation, CTD, Rosette water sampler, ADCP and Wave gauge; for navigation training, Ship handling simulator.
