EHIME MARU used for Training and Research
EHIME MARU, the training and research ship of Uwajima Fisheries High School, is used for cadet training and for fisheries and oceanographic research. The order for the ship was given to Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co., Ltd. and the ship was built at Hashihama Works. The ship was completed and delivered to Uwajima Fisheried High school in June 1996.
Features
1. The remote control system for the main engine mounted in the control console in the wheel house enables monitoring and remote control operation. This is expected to lead to labor saving.
2. Manipulated by a direction control dial, the ship maneuvering system allows the operator to control the propeller pitch, rudder angle and bow thruster simultaneously, and to maintain the ship's direction and speed.
3. Data of navigation apparatus, refrigerators for fish holds, fisheries and main engine which are fitted on the board, are transmitted directly to the handling data accumulation for light communication system. This system realized central management of data. These data are available, when necessary, by using the ship's on- line personal computers connected to light fiber cable.
4. Thermal, sound and fire safety insulation required by SOLAS are applied to accommodation areas. Four (4) sets of air conditioning units are provided to keep comfortable condition of the accommodation. Full consideration was also given to ventilation.
5. Major objects of research and observation for the ship are as follows.
1) Ocean physics, chemistry and biology
2) Sea states, fishing grounds and biological resources
