SHANTUNG, an 844-TEU Container Carrier
The 844-TEU container carrier SHANTUNG was completed in April 1995 at the Miho Shipyard Co., Ltd. to the order of the China Navigation Co., Ltd.
The SHANTUNG is a modern geared cellular container ship. She is designed and equipped to carry ISO 20' & 40' container in hold and on deck. All holds are certified for the carriage of SOLAS class 4 & 5 dangerous goods. Two electrohydraulic cranes of 40 (37) ton × 28 (30)m are installed starboard side on upper deck.
She is powered by one 9,485PS diesel engine connected to 4 bladed propeller.
Principal features of this ship are:
・She has powerful bow and stern thrusters with bridge controls enabling rapid berthing/unberthing routinely without tugs.
・A high capacity auto heeling system is fitted to help maintain the ship upright during cargo operations.
・The access to holds and cranes comply with AWWF rules.
・Pumping and monitoring of ballasting, hold bilges and the auto heel system is controlled from deck office, which is also fitted with remote draft and ballast tank level gauges.
・There are 3 transversely separated pontoon covers covering each 40' bay. The center cover has 2 hydraulically operated swing compression seals for non sequentially opening.
