SEA-LAND MERCURY, a 4,062-TEU Container Carrier
The 59,961-dwt container carrier SEA-LAND MERCURY was delivered to Mercury Corporation of the Marshall Islands in November 30, 1995 at Kure No. 1 Works of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI). SEA-LAND MERCURY is the third of five sister vessels delivered in 1995 and 1996, and more four sister vessels will be joined in 1997.
The ship carries a maximum of 4,062-TEU of containers, stowed in five tiers on deck including 350 integrated air cooled reefers (238 on the deck and 112 in the hold).
Containers can be loaded ten rows across and eight tiers high in the cargo holds and thirteen rows across on deck. No. 5 aft cargo hold, in which cell guides are arranged to carry seven tiers 45' containers, can be loaded not only 45' containers but also 40' containers by fixed guide/support fittings without cell guide conversion (patent pending). Thirty-four pontoon hatch covers arranged in two rows are handled efficiently by shore cranes.
An eight tiers high accommodation deckhouse permits good navigational visibility even when five tier containers are loaded.
