BLUE NOVA, One of a Series of 23,600-dwt Log/Bulk Carrier
The 23,709-dwt bulk carrier BLUE NOVA built by the Onishi Works of the Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co., Ltd. was delivered in May 1996 to the Leyte Navigation S.A.
The vessel is one of a series of 23,600-dwt type log bulk carriers built by the yard.
The vessel has wide hatches of 17.94m long× 12.80m wide for No. 1 and 19.50m long×l7.82m wide for No.2 through No.4, for efficient handling of timbers and long steel products. The width of the wider-hatches corresponds to 69 percent of the 26.0-meter molded breadth of the hull.
The vessel is qualified for timber freeboard, and its upper deck and hatch covers are strengthened to stand loads of 3.6t/m2 and 2.8t/2 respectively.
The vessel can also carry grains, hot coils and coals. Its cargo holds of odd and even numbers permit two-port loading and unloading at the stowage factor of 42 cubic-feet/long-ton.
The vessel has four cargo holds and the arrangement meets the requirements of SOLAS for stability for dry-cargo in case of ship damage.
