FORMOSA SIX,Third in a Series of 35,600-dwt Chemical Carrier
The 35,600-dwt chemical carrier FORMOSA SIX built by the Onishi Works of the Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co., Ltd. was delivered in December 1995 to the Formosa Plastics Tanker Corporation of Liberia.
The ship is the third of five sister ships, to be delivered to the Owner.
The ship was designed and built for ocean transport of IMO Type 2 and Type 3 chemicals, with twelve zinc coated cargo tanks and six epoxy coated cargo tanks.
All cargo tanks are constructed as the double hulls structure and to have enough strength to permit the full and slack loading of cargo of 1.26t/m3 in specific gravity.
To preserve the inside coating of cargo tanks, structures protruding into the tank are minimized by using the on-deck girder system for the upper deck and vertical corrugated type bulkheads.
Each cargo tank is equipped with one submerged cargo pump driven by a hydraulic motor. The pumps are remotely controlled from the cargo control room.
Cargo handling is simplified with a 5-ton hydraulic operated deck crane for hose handling, arranged amidship on the upper deck.
