148,435-dwt Crude Oil Tanker SEA STAR
The 148,435-dwt crude oil tanker SEA STAR (Hull No. 1421), built at the Chiba Works of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES), was delivered to her owner Rodon Investments S.A. of Panama.
SEA STAR is the eighth MES- built double-hull Suezmax tanker.
Features
1. The cargo oil space of the SEA STAR has a full double-hull structure to prevent massive oil spills in the event of collision or stranding, satisfying the requirements of the new International Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The tank structure also meets the standards of the U.S. Oil Pollution Act 1990 (OPA '90).
2. The vessel has 14 cargo oil tanks and 12 segregated ballast tanks partitioned by three longitudinal and six transverse bulkheads. The cargo oil tanks are equipped with heating coils, and the cargo handling system is designed to permit stowage of three different kinds of oil at the same time.
3. The segregated ballast tanks in the cargo oil space are provided with an inerting system to prevent explosion of oil leaks in addition to devices to detect any gas in the tanks. They are also equipped with ventilators to let in fresh air during inspection of the tanks, all with a view to thoroughly ensuring safety.
4. A system to collect ashore oil gas generating from cargo oil tanks during their loading is provided to prevent air pollution.
5. The vessel is equipped with a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
6. The vessel has acquired the Safe Hull and OMBO notations of ABS.
