Even for all birth weights under 1,000 grams the mortality was only 28.2 percent and for infants from 1,000 to 1,499 grams it was 6.9 percent. Of these 2,050 ELBW infants there were 162 under 24 weeks; at 23 weeks gestation 76/118 had a mortality of 64 percent; under 23 weeks gestation 33/36 had 92 percent mortality and 8/8 under 22 weeks gestation had a 100 percent mortality.
