Dry-cleaning fluid, tetrachloroethylene, trichloroethylene and other solvents used in high-tech industries and so forth penetrate from the location of disposal into the groundwater and flow in the lakes and rivers, thereby broadening the range of contamination.

The third source of contamination is pollution due to unbridled development. Forests are cut down, high-speed expressways are constructed, tourist and leisure facilities, golf courses and so forth are being established one after the other.
34. Golf course
Insecticides, bactericides, herbicides and other agricultural chemicals used to maintain golf course greens penetrate into the groundwater and flow away in nearby streams as red-tinted water.
