CHAPTER 4 BEKASI LINE QUADRUPLE TRACKING

4.1 Basic Concept

Present condition of the railway system on Bekasi Line, especially between Manggarai and Bekasi Stations, has been already modernized by the double tracking, the electrification and the automatic signalling and this line is most busy by the mixed operation of the long and middle distance intercity trains, commuter trains and the intercity freight trains, all of which is from Jakarta to the eastward direction for the Java main routes. Besides, the special coal trains from Merak are operated to Bekasi Station, where the coal container is unloaded to the road transport.

Based on this present operation of Bekasi Line, the following basic concepts for improvement are considered to the future railway transport system along this line.

・Track Separation between Intercity Train and Commuter Train

・Line Capacity Increase and Speed-Up Operation for Intercity Train

・Exclusive Line for Commuter Train and its Frequent Operation

・On-Time Operation both for Intercity Train and Commuter Train

In order to facilitate the above train operation, the Quadruple Tracking of Bekasi Line is proposed to accommodate one double track to the main trunk route for the east-west direction of intercity trains and another double track to the exclusive commuter train route.

The Quadruple Tracking is to be starting from the existing Kebayoran Station, through Manggarai, Jatinegara and Bekasi Stations and ending at the existing Cikarang Station with the total route of approximately 45km length.

On this line, the main intercity train from Java route is operated to the main

terminal station and also the train from Merak is directly connected with the east-west trunk line through the new short-cutting connection between Manggarai and Kebayoran Stations, instead of connecting to the existing Tanah Abang Station.

As for the terminal stations in the urban area of Jakarta City, it is assumed that the existing main stations such as Jakarta Kota, Gambir, Pasar Senen, Tanah Abang are still having the same function as the main passenger terminal and Manggarai Station will also be developed as one of the main Terminal Station in the future.

Outlines of the proposed Quadruple Tracking route are described below and divided by the main railway structures and methods for construction.
