3.3 Railway Network
Railway network in Jabotabek Area is consisting of trunk lines for inter-city train operation and suburban lines for commuter train operation. Main trunk line is from Jakarta to Bekasi direction for Bandung and Java lines and other line is from Jakarta to Merak direction. Suburban lines are in radial spreading directions from Jakarta to Bogor, Bekasi, Serpong, Tangerang and Tanjung Priok areas.
Among others, the Bekasi Line is most busily operated by main inter-city trains and commuter trains, especially the section between Jatinegara and Bekasi is exceeding the Line Capacity with causing the many trains delayed.Similar situation is often on the section between Gambir and Manggarai of Central Line and between Pasar Senen and Jatinegara of Eastern Line.
The Bogor Line is also in the most busy operation by commuter trains and at the morning rush hours is almost exceeding the Line Capacity on this route.
Present condition and future requirement of each railway line in Jakarta Metropolitan Area are described below.
・Central/Bogor Line
- Route : Jakarta-Gambir-Manggarai-Depok-Bogor (54km)
- Facility : Double Track, Electrified, Partially Elevated
- Operation : Jakarta-Manggarai in mixed operation by inter-city and
commuter trains with over line capacity,
Manggarai-Bogor mostly by commuter trains
- Future : Main Terminal Station at Manggarai or Gambir,
Track Separation on Gambir-Manggarai
・Eastern Line
- Route : Kampung Bandan-Pasar Senen-Jatinegara (12km)
- Facility : Double Track, Electrified, Mechanical Signal
- Operation : Mixed operation by inter-city and commuter trains,
Tanjung Priok-Jatinegara by freight container trains
- Future : Track Elevation on Kampung Bandan-Jatinegara,
Track Connection for circular route line
・Western Line
- Route : Kampung Bandan-Pasar Senen-Jatinegara (12km)
- Facility : Double Track, Electrified, Mechanical Signal
- Operation : Mixed operation by commuter and freight trains
- Future : Interface with other railway lines
