EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFECT OF BRAIN STIMULATION EXERCISE FOR SENILE DEMENTIA IN DAY CARE PATIENTS

Abstract: <Purpose> Hamamatsu Method (Kaneko) combined with Kana Pick up Test and MMS Test was used for evaluation of early dementia and brain stimulation exercise was performed for day care patients. The results are reported.

<Subjects and Methods> The cerebrovascular disease patients were 97, male 19 and female 78. The average age was 78 year old. The program of 1 day were puzzle, manual arts, music, recreation, stretching exercise etc., and the effect of it after 3 months was tested by the Hamamatsu Method and behavior observation.

<Results> The normal was 41 and the deterioration was 52 in Kana Pick up Test, and the normal was 42 and the deterioration was 51 in MMS Test. Initially, the stages of grading were as follows; normal 25, subnormal 16, predementia 17, mild dementia 32 and severe dementia 3 patients. The evaluation of 3 months later was as follows; The normal 60 and the deterioration 33 in Kana Pick up Test, and the normal 43 and the deterioration 50 in MMS Test. The stages of grading were as follows; normal 37, subnorma1 23, predementia 6, mild dementia 25 and severe dementia 2 patients. Moreover, behavior observation revealed most patients became cheerful and vivid.

These results suggests Hamamatsu Method is useful as the evaluation and Brain Stimulation Exercise is effective for early dementia in day care patients.

Practice of Liaison Psychiatry in Rehabilitation Medicine

We have been conducting a 'Liaison Conference' in order to attend to the psychosocial problems seen on the Rehabilitation Unit at Tokai university Oiso Hospital.

Rehabilitation staffs and a liaison psychiatrist participate in the 'Liaison Conference' and discuss the psychosocial problems of rehabilitation medicine. This conference is based on Liason model, so the liaison psychiatrist focuses the patient-staff relationships, rehabilitation team and family problems.

Since 1986 to 1997, we have been holding the conferences about 300 cases. The kind of disease on cases are CVD, Spinal cord injury, amptation, fructhre and others.

We will introduce our practice and discuss the clinical and educational effects of 'Liaison Conference'.
