The hand with spasticity resulted from Stroke was treated by using Plum-blossom Needle and the Traditional Chinese Manual Techniques. The purpose of the research was to investigate and study on the effectiveness of the approach which applied on the treatment of the hand dysfunction. Forty-six patients with hand spasticity following Stroke were randomly divided into two groups in the study, twenty-one patients for experimental group and twenty-five patients as control group. Both groups received physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The experimental group also received the treatment of Plum-blossom Needle combined with the Traditional Chinese Manual Technique. The hand function, the function of upper extremity, ADL, Ashword Scale for spasticity and thermograph were evaluated for the hand before and after the treatment. The results showed that the hand spasticity of the research group were significantly reduced (P<0.01). It is assumed from the study that stimulation of Plum-blossom Needle on the specific spot of the hand, which serves as a carrier that carries the correct motor patterns reestablished through Traditional Chinese Manual Technique into the area of the affected cortex related to the hand function and arouse the excitement of that. It is believed that Plum-blossom Needle combined with Traditional Chances Manual Technique is effective on reducing spasticity caused by stroke.
