Kinjo Ichiji and Okumura Etushi (Minami-Osaka General Hospital, Oaska, Japan)

Lee Gyokuyo (1st Red Cross Hospital, Kyoto, Japan)

Purpose: The present study was done in order to compare the socio-medical and mental status quo of inpatients, especially their subjective quality of life (QOL) in geriatric and general hospitals.

Material: 318 and 78 inpatients in geriatric and general hospitals were materialized, respectively. Informations as to variety of disease, extent of motor functions, hobby, utilization of spare time, hopes after recovery and QOL were obtained from questionnaires.

Result: While the most of patients in general hospitals answered affirmatively or hopefully to their issue of future and in addition showed good QOL regardless of the differences of diseases and motor functions, those in geriatric hospitals spent a lot of the spare time at watching T.V., had pessimistic and negative mind about the wishes after discharge, and not good QOL although their motor functions (i.e. gait-group) were maintained to be better.

Conclusion: We concluded that medical and co-medical staffs need to cope kindly, gently, and psychologically with them to keep their high QOL in the rehabilitation in the geriatric hospitals.

THE PROGNOSIS OF PLATEAU-INPATIENTS DUE TO CEREBROVADCULAR DISTURBANCE IN GERIATRIC HOSPITAL

Sumio Higashi & Kazuo Hayama (Kotonoura Rehabilitation Center, Wakayama, Japan)

Takenori Toda & Etsushi Okumura (Minami Osaka General Hospital, Osaka, Japan)

To evaluate the progress of plateau-inpatients in geriatric hospitals who had been cured during acute stages in general hospitals that ms analysed by multiple regression analysis and discriminant analysis.

here were 79 subjects averaging 80.0±8.6 years old. There were three levels of classification improvement, unchanged and aggravating groups according to the rehabilitation for one year after admission.

1. The improvement of activities of daily living in terms of standardized exercise and training ms observed at 40.5%. Stability and deterioration were recognized at 46.8% and 12.7%, respectively.

2. The outcome of the patients didn't show the same ratio after two years.

3. The patients of the improved-group have some hobbies, and can keep the high subjective Q0L.

4. The multiple regression equation was as follows; QOL= -2.27 SDS -19.2 functional level -2.29 duration +148.0.

5. The materialized factor of QOL was influenced by the depression-degree and clinical progress in geriatric hospital.
