The aims of the Games are to promote rehabilitation and true independence of the disabled persons through sports. The 7th Games is scheduled to be held in January of 1999.

This Federation was founded for the purpose of promoting independence and rehabilitation while simultaneously, promoting the understanding towards disabled persons and social welfare, all through sports. The FESPIC Movement, its philosophy and activities, are role models. Past participants are taking upon responsibilities in their home areas in the field of disabled sports.

Development and promotion in areas, where disabled sports are just beginning, will be one of the major future goals. The Seventh FESPIC Games will be held in Bangkok Thailand and the next Paralympic Games will also be held in FESPIC region. These large games will be a strong encouragement towards participation on all levels of nations by wider range of people for a higher level of mutual human understanding.

The process of sport classification and how it relates to the World Health Organization's International Classification of Impairment, Disability, and Handicap (IC-IDH) is presented. It reviews training issues and injuries in these athletes. Similarities to athletes without disability, including comparable injury rates will be discussed. Lastly, the controversial topics of spasticity, doping, and "Boosting", the intentional induction of anatomic dysreflexia, will be presented.

In conclusion, experience has shown that athletes with disability are medically quite similar to athletes without a disability, including having similar training concerns, injury risks, and potential for abuse.
