ACCOMPANYING PERSON'S PROGRAM

AP-1 KYOTO FULL DAY

Fare: Included in the accompanying person's fee. (lunch included)

Accompanied by an English-speaking guide.

 

*Ryoanji Temple

An old Zen Buddhist temple with a famous rock garden consisting of only white sand and fifteen rocks, acknowledged as classic among Japanese gardens.

*Golden Pavilion

One of the most exquisite Japanese style gardens anywhere, plus the ce1ebrated Golden Pavilion.

*Arashiyama (Lunch)

Meaning“Tempest Mountain,”this love1y place contains the blessings of nature-mountains, forests, rivers, etc. Its beauty lies in the various trees, shrubs and flowers on a hil1side overlooking a river.

*Tenryuji Temple

This Zen Buddhist temple was founded in l339 by the first Ashikaga Shogun. The garden, designed by Abbot Muso Kokushi, its first head priest, retains its original beauty, with a pond, white sand and rocks.

 

AP-2 KYO-YUZEN AND KIMON0 SHOW

*Kyo-Yuzen Center

The Kyo-Yuzen process, devised about 300 years ago, is a specia1 technique for dying clothes beautifully. Yuzen (printed silk) is representative of Japanese dyed goods. The numerous displays and demonstrations at the center show Yuzen excellence to the fullest. Enjoy dyeing your own handkerchief, too.

*Nishijin Textile Center-Kimono Show

The Nishijin district is world-famous for its traditional silk weaving. Products known as Nishijin-ori are among Japan's highest grade textiles. Not only the kimono but also neckties, dresses and other goods are made of Nishijin-ori. Enjoy a kimono fashion show, a demonstration of weaving and displays of Nishijin silk fabrics. A few who wish can try on a fashionable kimono, with professional assistance, and have a photo taken.

AP-3 HOSPITALITY L0UNGE

A lounge will be available where accompanying persons and participants from abroad can relax. Demonstrations of and lessons in such traditional Japanese activities and arts as tea ceremony, flower arrangements and shodo (Japaneses calligraphy), will be held here on schedu1e. The lounge, open free of charge during conference hours, may be used for sitting and talking with friends, too.
