Examination of Sleeper Spacing

 

1. According to UBTSL sleeper spacing is proposed as 1200〜1400 pieces/km. From the view point of track strength sufficient to support LRT train running, sleeper spacing of 1200〜1400 pieces/km namely, 71.4〜833 cm were examined.

 

2. Preconditions

 

(a) Rail

UIC 54 Rail weight =54,4 kg/m

Ix = 2346 cm4 (2nd sectional moment of rail)

Zx = 313 cm3 (sectional coefficient)

 

(b) Train speed

Vmax = 75 km/h

 

(c) Train loading condition (for one wheel each)

(d) Rail pad elasticity

D1 = 100 t/cm

Ballast elasticity per one rail fastening

D2 = 300t/cm

 

(e) = 144Elx / a3D

 

E = young's modules of rail (2.1 x 10 6kg/c?u)

a = sleeper spacing :

71.4 cm (1400 pieces/km)

76.9 cm (1300 pieces/km)

83.3 cm (1200 pieces/km)
