9.3.4.5 Fare Collection System
The cost of equipment installation, which accounts for 15% to 25% of the total cost is mostly labor. Table 2.1-1 indicates that the cost of equipment installation labor in India is 0.039 times that in Japan. Taking into consideration the efficiency of workers in India, however, we multiply the factor by 4. We assumed that machinery costs in India are the same as those in Japan based on Table 9.2.1-7.
If the ratio of installation cost to the total cost is 15%,
0.85 + 0.15 x 0.039 x 4 = 0.8734
If the ratio of installation cost to the total cost is 25%,
0.75 + 0.25 x 0.039 x 4 = 0.789
Therefore, we estimate that costs of fare collection system in India are 85% of those in Japan.
